His love of Stacy, his love of basketball, and his love of kids made Ken Brown the perfect person to lead
Stacy Smith Foundation’s basketball camp. Currently playing professional basketball overseas, the
resilience and determination Ken has shown in his own personal journey echo the very mission of the camp
in reaching out to kids in the community. This will be Ken’s third year running the camp and promises to be
the biggest and best yet!
|From the moment she spoke to the audience at the awards banquet, we could tell that she was destined for great
things. That’s why we couldn’t be more excited to hear that Heidi Savabi, 2010 Academic recipient,
graduated from the University of Miami with honors! Our selection committee was quite impressed when they read
her essay on her scholarship application, but even more impressive is the focus, drive, and determination Heidi
has shown these past 4 years in turning those dreams into a reality. Stacy Smith Foundation proudly
congratulates Heidi on graduating and wishes her continued success in her bright and promising future!!!
That’s right! Our very own Candace Perkins, 2012 Hardship recipient, showing up on billboards and signs all
over campus. I guess you can say she’s become the face of the University.
Looking good Candace!

On October 6, 2015 Barbara Porter-Walker, Stacy Smith Foundation President and proud
grandmother of Stacy, made an appearance on the Jared Arms Show to promote awareness of the
foundation and it's mission to make an impact in the community and the lives of it's youth. The Jared
Arms Show is invaluable as it provides a platform to promote positive change in the community and we
are thankful for the opportunity to get our message out there. Make sure you check them out!
Team Stacy came out in full force for this years basketball camp on June 26th and 27th. Coach Ken put the
FUN back in fundamentals while putting the kids through drills designed to enhance their performance on the
court. The walls of the gymnasium adorned with the number 12 at Clyde C.Miller Career Academy, this marks
the first time SSF has returned since hosting it’s initial camp there in 2009, giving the kids the chance to play
on the same court Stacy played many of his games on.
SSF proudly congratulates 2012 Hardship Award recipient Candace Perkins on her recent
graduation from Southern Ilinois University-Edwardsville! Candace has been the model of
perserverance and dedication and we wish her continued success as she begins her teaching
career at Pershing Elementary.
Way to go Candace!
